Day-11

Thursday morning, started with the workshop of Romanian students. It started with the presentation of the country, then the Transylvania region, Oradea city and Oradea University.

In the second part we presented some theoretical aspects about Social integration, Social inclusion, Social exclusion, Prejudice and the situation of the Gypsies in Romania.

The aim of the workshop was to show how important is to acquire knowledge in order to avoid prejudice and stereotypes. It is known that prejudice appears when there is a lack of knowledge. That’s because not enough knowledge leads to a generalization which is the root of every prejudice. Once people established their general judgment about one particular group of people, who are of certain religion, race or social background, they tend to keep their beliefs alive by ignoring facts that might spoil their judgment. They don’t want to learn, because learning is generally hard and, what is more dangerous, it might also destroy their beliefs. It is easier to notice just those examples which support our beliefs and which make our generalization look stronger. People with prejudice never compare one individual to another, but one whole group to other group.

The day continued with the workshop of Palacy University “The Drama Theory in the context of European Union.” Our group is from Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech Republic, and we prepared a workshop about the drama therapy techniques which the students can use in their educational process. Students were divided into four groups with five student leaders. At the beginning we presented the basic description of the drama therapy and then we started with practical activities. The activities used movement as an expression technique and their aim was to foster cooperation and self-expression. In our opinion, the participants really enjoyed it and appreciated the opportunity to connect as a group. We received a lot of positive feedback from them and think that the purpose of the workshop was achieved with success.
